A shell you can fill with red health. The shell is lost if it breaks.
Carry the white half to the next floor, or pair it with another, to gain a container.
A coin-producing outline around existing health. It adds no extra protection.

These are dropped pickups, while the HUD shows the health you already hold. Use the character healing helper to check whether a pickup refills health, adds a new type, or becomes another resource. Special characters use different health rules, so check the character stats guide and HUD guide when the result looks different.
Compare the opening rule before you commit. Open an entry for its reward possibilities, original chest previews, and related item pools.
| Chest | Opening rule | Main consideration |

![]() | Free to open | Check for a Mimic or Haunted Chest before walking into a similar-looking chest. |
![]() | Costs 1 key | An item is possible, but it is not guaranteed. |
![]() | Needs an explosion | Stand clear of the blast used to open it. |
![]() | Normally costs ½ heart | Budget for the health payment before touching the spikes. |
![]() | Becomes spiked when approached | Approaching it can turn an apparently free chest into a health payment. |
![]() | 1 key per opening | Repeated openings spend more keys, and the sequence can end without another reward. |
![]() | Costs 1 key | It requires a key even though its worn appearance differs from a golden chest. |
![]() | Free to open | Opening it does not identify an unknown pill's effect for you. |
![]() | Costs 1–7 keys | One key may only make progress toward opening it. |
![]() | Ghost throws it before it opens | The closed or thrown chest deals half a heart of damage on contact. |
![]() | Free opening; risky contents | Be ready to move as soon as it opens. |
![]() | Free; found in Home | Its first-opening reward does not repeat on every Home run. |
Troll Bombs are live hazards. Golden Batteries hurt you on collection. Red Chests can release enemies or explosives. Read the opening rule even when something looks like a reward.
