A quick tour of the HUD

This is a simplified screen layout, not a screenshot. It uses original Repentance art for the hearts, supplies, stat icons, charge bar, card, room symbols, curses, and shield, alongside item, trinket, and character sprites. Exact placement depends on your screen and HUD options.

Hearts show your health

Red Hearts fill containers and can be restored. Soul Hearts are blue protection beyond or in place of red health; Black Hearts are a darker variant that also damages the room when depleted. Other heart types change these rules, so read their color and outline.

Coins, bombs, keys

These counters show your current supplies. Coins pay for shops and some machines, bombs open paths and damage targets, and keys open locked doors or chests.

Active item and charge

An active item is a tool you choose when to use. Its charge bar tells you when it is ready. Most room-charge items gain charge by clearing rooms, though timed and resource-based items work differently. The D6 shown here needs six room charges and rerolls item pedestals in the room.

Pocket item versus trinket

Cards, runes, and pills normally occupy the consumable slot until used or replaced. A trinket has a separate slot and usually works while held. Paper Clip is a sample trinket; Mom's Purse or Belly Button can let you hold a second one. Some characters have a pocket active item, so that slot can look different.

Optional stat display

What the Found HUD numbers mean

Compare starting stats

Enable Found HUD in the game options to see numerical stats. The display changes during a run as items and effects change your character. Some unusual attacks use these values differently.

SpeedHow fast your character moves.Higher means faster movement, up to the game's limits.
TearsHow frequently you fire.In Repentance this is displayed as tears per second, so a higher value usually means faster firing.
DamageHow much damage a standard tear deals. Some weapons and effects use this stat in their own damage formulas.
RangeHow far tears travel before falling.A higher value generally helps you hit targets from farther away.
Shot speedHow quickly a fired tear moves. This is travel speed, not the number of tears you shoot each second.
LuckAffects specific chance-based effects. It is not a single percentage for all drops or all rooms.
Devil chanceThe displayed Devil Room chance. The chance of a Devil Room door after an eligible boss. It can change as you take damage or meet other conditions.
Angel chanceThe displayed Angel Room chance. The chance of an Angel Room door after an eligible boss. Deal history and other conditions affect it.

Tears and shot speed are easy to mix up: one describes firing frequency, the other describes a tear already in motion.

What can this health bar survive?

Compare heart types, character-specific healing and protection. An empty red container, a lost Soul Heart, and a consumed shield require different answers.

Map symbols, curses, and status cues

Use these game icons as a quick recognition key. Check where a symbol appears before deciding what it means; room destinations, floor curses, and status cues describe different things.

On a map square

A symbol inside a revealed room marks a place such as a Treasure Room or Shop. The map shows connections and your position, but what it reveals can change with items and floor conditions.

Under the map

A curse icon signals a condition affecting the current floor. Curse of the Blind conceals pedestal item identities; Curse of the Lost hides the map. Mapping-effect indicators can also appear under the minimap.

Near health or on Isaac

A status cue can show a specific shield or other effect. For example, the blue cross near health represents Holy Mantle protection. Other temporary effects may be visible on the character or in the room instead.

Turn on Found HUD and Extra HUD

Found HUD adds numerical stats, while Extra HUD shows your collected item history. Both are game options. The main health, item, pocket, supply, and map areas remain useful even if you leave those optional displays off.
