Repentance · Two forms and health reserves

The Forgotten:
Bone body and tethered Soul

Switch between the bone body and tethered Soul, route heart pickups and avoid treating one form as a spare life.

Understand the system

Check both health reserves before switching.

Different attacks and health

The bone body uses a melee club and Bone Hearts filled by red health. The Soul flies and fires spectral tears using Soul or Black Heart health. They share the run and build, but each form has its own health reserve.

Switch within the tether

Use the drop control to switch. While the Soul is active, the bone body stays still and can block projectiles. Without Birthright, the tether limits Soul movement. The body is not a movable thrown weapon like Tainted Forgotten's body.

Either form can end the run

If damage kills either form, the run ends without a revival effect, even when the other reserve has health. Soul and Black Heart pickups feed the Soul reserve, including when collected by the body. Red Hearts fill available Bone Heart interiors.

Bone, Red and Soul Heart icons identify the two reserves and healing pickups. Birthright is optional and removes the ordinary tether.

What changes after this action?

These are fixed teaching examples with stated conditions. Choose an action and compare what you have before and after it.

The Forgotten

Switch from body to Soul

Before

Bone body active; both reserves nonempty; no Birthright or transformation

After

Soul active and tethered; bone body stays at its position

The active attack and movement change. This does not merge the two health reserves or move the body alongside the Soul.

Check before acting: Check the Soul reserve and useful tether range before switching.

Bone, Red and Soul Heart icons identify the two reserves and healing pickups. Birthright is optional and removes the ordinary tether.

This reference does not read your save, calculate a crafting recipe or simulate an arbitrary inventory, health bar, queue or combat state.

Before the next action

  1. Check both reserves before switching to handle a threat. Pick the form whose attack and current health fit the opening.
  2. Place the bone body where the tether leaves a useful dodge area for the Soul. Use its shot blocking as help, rather than a guarantee of safety.
  3. Collect the heart type the depleted reserve needs. Switch back before a risky hit instead of expecting the body reserve to revive a dying Soul.
