Lazarus:
Revival and the next floor

Understand Lazarus's floor-based revival, reduced heart capacity and lasting damage gain before risking another hit.

Understand the system

Check whether this floor still has a spare life.

Revival changes the form

Lazarus starts with an innate extra life. Its revival turns him into Lazarus II with stronger base stats, losing one Red Heart container but never falling below one container from this penalty. The transformation adds a permanent +0.5 damage bonus.

A new room is not a new life

Once this revival has been spent, another room on the same floor does not restore it. Without a separate extra-life effect, lethal damage can now end the run. Lazarus II still earns ordinary Lazarus completion marks.

The next floor restores the cycle

Entering a new floor returns Lazarus II to normal Lazarus and restores the innate extra life. The permanent damage gain stays. Optional Birthright adds a separate revival damage burst that fades over one minute.

Birthright is optional, not a starting revival item. The Red Heart icon identifies health and container planning; the innate life does not require Lazarus' Rags.

Practice the decision

What changes after this action?

These are fixed teaching examples with stated conditions. Choose an action and compare what you have before and after it.

Lazarus

Take lethal damage with the innate life ready

Before

Normal Lazarus; 3 Red Heart containers; innate life ready; no other revival effects

After

Lazarus II; 2 Red Heart containers; innate life spent on this floor

The revival changes the form and adds the lasting +0.5 damage bonus. Container count describes capacity, not a promise that every container is filled.

Check before acting: Check the new health bar and find recovery before the next dangerous room.

This reference does not read your save, calculate a crafting recipe or simulate an arbitrary inventory, health bar, queue or combat state.

Before the next action

  1. Check the form and extra-life display before entering an optional fight. Make your decision using the health and recovery resources available now.
  2. After revival, inspect the smaller health capacity and collect useful healing. Keep dodging rather than expecting another rescue on the same floor.
  3. On the next floor, check the restored life and current stats again. A planned revival still needs a recovery route; it is not a reason to ignore incoming damage.
