Back away to make the spaces between shots wider.
Choose a gap rather than relying on one direction.

Check the other enemies before committing to this response. Obstacles, your weapon and your character can change the safest angle.

Assuming the usual Clot or Clotty safe lane is empty.

Find the gaps between shots, and check the variant.
