Repentance · Pursuer and temporary form

Tainted Jacob:
Dark Esau and ghost form

Chain Dark Esau, prepare for his release and understand why ghost-form health will not protect you on this floor.

Understand the system

Control the charge, then protect the escape route.

Dark Esau follows between rooms

Dark Esau pursues Jacob and cannot be killed under these Repentance rules. His charge can damage enemies, but touching him while he is not chained converts Jacob into a fragile ghost. Switching rooms does not dismiss the pursuer.

Anima Sola creates a short opening

With Dark Esau present, Anima Sola prioritizes and chains him. While chained he cannot convert Jacob. When the chain breaks, including an early release, he immediately charges. Plan the escape before the release.

Ghost form lasts for the floor

The ghost gains flight and spectral tears. Its faded health bar does not protect against an unblocked hit. Reaching the next floor restores Jacob's normal form. Birthright adds another Dark Esau, so ordinary one-pursuer examples do not describe that upgrade.

Anima Sola is the starting pocket active. Birthright is optional and adds a second pursuer. The icon does not show a controllable Esau or a guaranteed shield.

Tainted Jacob

Use ready Anima Sola with Esau present

Before

Normal Jacob; one unchained Dark Esau; Anima Sola ready; no Birthright

After

Dark Esau chained; a temporary repositioning window

The active prioritizes Dark Esau. He cannot convert Jacob while chained, but the pause ends and needs an escape plan.

Check before acting: Choose your position for the release before the chain runs out.

Anima Sola is the starting pocket active. Birthright is optional and adds a second pursuer. The icon does not show a controllable Esau or a guaranteed shield.

This reference does not read your save, calculate a crafting recipe or simulate an arbitrary inventory, health bar, queue or combat state.

Before the next action

  1. Keep Jacob's path clear when lining Esau up with enemies. Use his attack only when you can also move out of the charge line.
  2. Use ready Anima Sola to reposition, then choose when the charge line is safe. Expect the same danger when the chains expire on their own.
  3. If converted, stop treating filled hearts as a damage buffer. Avoid optional risks and plan a safe way to finish the floor and reach the next one.
