Repentance · Passive inventory

Tainted Isaac:
The eight-item limit

Manage eight passive slots, pick the visible pedestal option and decide which effect to replace.

Understand the system

Choose what stays in the build.

Eight passive slots, with specific exemptions

The ordinary limit is eight passives. Active items and quest-tagged pieces are exempt. Birthright is also exempt and raises the limit to twelve.

The ninth ordinary passive replaces your selection

Use the drop/swap control to move the white highlight before taking another passive. The highlighted item drops onto a pedestal and its ongoing effect is removed.

Pick the option you actually see

Eligible new pedestals cycle between two choices. The visible item at contact is the one taken. A pedestal dropped from your inventory does not gain a fresh cycling pair.

Original item and pickup art identifies the linked reference entries. These icons are not screenshots of a clot, wisp, bag contents or poop queue.

Take a ninth ordinary passive

Before

8 passives; selected slot contains A

After

8 passives; new B replaces A

A drops onto a pedestal and its ongoing effect stops.

Check before acting: Move the inventory highlight before touching B if A should stay.

This reference does not read your save, calculate a crafting recipe or simulate an arbitrary inventory, health bar, queue or combat state.

Before the next action

  1. Review the white inventory highlight before touching a new passive.
  2. Compare the effect you are adding with the one selected to leave.
  3. Recheck health, weapon behavior and any affected transformation after the swap.
