Tainted Eden:
Damage rerolls and Birthright

Recognize damage-triggered rerolls, separate self-damage payments and understand which acquired items Birthright protects.

Understand the system

Recheck the build after a hit.

A qualifying hit changes the build

Nonfatal qualifying damage rerolls Tainted Eden's base stats and rerollable held items. Held trinkets and pocket consumables can change too. Item pools constrain replacements; a hit is not a way to request one specific item.

A payment is a different trigger

Self-damage payments, such as a Blood Donation Machine, do not cause the character's damage reroll. They still spend health. Other item effects can react to that payment independently.

Birthright locks earlier acquisitions

Birthright protects collectibles acquired before it from this character reroll. Later acquisitions remain eligible. The protected items do not freeze the randomized base stats or guarantee the whole later build will stay fixed.

Birthright is an optional protection reference. Tainted Eden starts with randomized items, not a guaranteed Birthright.

Practice the decision

What changes after this action?

These are fixed teaching examples with stated conditions. Choose an action and compare what you have before and after it.

Tainted Eden

Take ordinary nonfatal enemy damage

Before

Rerollable build; no Birthright; ordinary nonfatal enemy hit

After

Rerollable held build and base stats rerolled

The hit triggers the character reroll. Replacements are not chosen here, and the resulting health and weapon need inspection.

Check before acting: Move to safety before relying on the previous weapon or active.

Birthright is an optional protection reference. Tainted Eden starts with randomized items, not a guaranteed Birthright.

This reference does not read your save, calculate a crafting recipe or simulate an arbitrary inventory, health bar, queue or combat state.

Before the next action

  1. After a hit, create space before resuming your old attack rhythm. Check the weapon, health bar and pocket slot while the room gives you an opening.
  2. Read the current active before pressing its control. A replacement can have a different effect, charge state or risk from the one you expected.
  3. When deciding on Birthright, assess the useful effects already acquired. Plan around those protected items rather than assuming later pickups will also lock.
