Cain:
Lucky Foot and Paper Clip

Use Cain's Lucky Foot pill conversion, check the Paper Clip unlock and keep keys for doors the trinket cannot open.

Understand the system

Separate safer pill effects from free locks.

Lucky Foot changes pill outcomes

Cain starts with Lucky Foot, which adds luck and improves selected payout chances. In Repentance it converts negative pills into positive counterparts without identifying them like PHD. An unknown pill can still have an effect you do not want right now.

Paper Clip has a starting unlock

Donating 68 coins to the Greed Donation Machine adds Paper Clip to later Cain starts. While the normal trinket is held, ordinary locked Golden Chests can be opened without spending a key. It does not provide the same benefit for Mega Chests.

Locked doors still need a key

A normal Paper Clip does not unlock ordinary locked room doors for free. Keep key stock for those entrances, and check whether the trinket is still held before budgeting chest costs. Cain takes ordinary item pedestals normally rather than converting them into crafting pickups.

Lucky Foot is the starting passive. Paper Clip becomes a starting trinket after 68 Greed donations and must be held for these examples. The neutral Speed Up pill symbol identifies an effect, not a fixed pill color.

Cain

Use a pill whose negative effect Lucky Foot converts

Before

Cain holds Lucky Foot; ordinary pill would be Speed Down without conversion; speed below cap; no other pill modifiers

After

Speed Up applied; one pill consumed

Lucky Foot converts this negative stat effect into its positive counterpart. It did not identify the unknown pill in advance.

Check before acting: Remember the discovered effect and inspect current speed afterward.

Before the next action

  1. Check the held Lucky Foot and any other pill modifiers before making a pill decision. Conversion is not the same as revealing every unknown effect.
  2. Inspect the profile's Paper Clip starting unlock and the current trinket slot. Do not assume the chest benefit remains after dropping the trinket.
  3. Reserve keys for the rooms you want to enter. Open eligible chests with the held Paper Clip, then reassess the resulting supplies.
