Leave Brimstone on its pedestal and compare taking the weapon with consuming it. Use Abyss only after deciding to give up that pickup; it affects the item pedestals in the room.

The gray appearance is not a promise of laser damage. This consumes the pedestal, so owning Brimstone in your inventory is a different setup.
