Account mode

Mode guidance

Standard Ironman

Use the full roadmap, but treat every rare drop as a branch rather than a gate. Sustainable supplies matter more than perfect efficiency.

  • Put most flexible quest experience into Herblore.
  • Start Farming, giant seaweed, and birdhouses before they become requirements.
  • Use Barrows, Perilous Moons, and Royal Titans as upgrade stops, not mandatory completion logs.

Account foundation

Protect the supply chain

Ironman progress stalls when one missing resource blocks everything else. Establish these systems early and improve them gradually.

Transportation

Chronicle, Ardougne cloak, spirit trees, gliders, fairy rings, teleport jewellery, and a useful house.

Food

Turn Fishing and Cooking into a renewable supply. Tempoross and karambwans are options, not obligations.

Prayer

Reach protection prayers, then add renewable moth mixes, potions, blessed shards, and later house restoration.

Farming & Herblore

Begin recurring runs early. Herbs, secondaries, contracts, and Kingdom resources power later PvM.

Runes

Use shops, Guardians of the Rift, quest unlocks, drops, and Runecraft to support teleports and combat.

Coins

Coins fund runes, shops, Construction, Kingdom, Blast Furnace, travel, and services, not Grand Exchange shortcuts.

Construction

Build storage, teleports, restoration, and convenient utility instead of treating the house as a late-game luxury.

Storage

Use the seed vault, costume room, STASH units, potion storage, and mode-appropriate item management.

Common Ironman traps

  • Rushing 99 Firemaking because an old guide treated Wintertodt as mandatory.
  • Delaying Farming and Herblore until potions become an emergency.
  • Chasing one rare drop while every other part of the account stops.
  • Treating Bowfa as permission to begin bossing or raids.
  • Using valuable food and potions for ordinary training when cheaper supplies work.
  • Ignoring Construction, storage, transportation, and recurring systems.

The rule that matters most

Judge an activity by everything it produces, not only by its headline experience rate.

Quest XP can unlock combat, transportation, and future prerequisites at once.
Farming creates Herblore supplies while progressing contracts and diaries.
Bosses should provide equipment, mechanics practice, supplies, or several of those together.
A slightly slower method can be better when it solves three future problems.

Quick answers

Ironman guide FAQ

What should a new OSRS Ironman do first?

Use early quests for levels, unlock transportation, reach protection prayers, and begin recurring Farming, Herblore, food, rune, and cash systems.

Is Wintertodt still mandatory for Ironmen?

No. The warmth system removed the old low-Hitpoints pressure. Wintertodt is now one optional Firemaking and supply route among many.

Do Ironmen need Bowfa before raids?

No. Bowfa and crystal armour are extremely strong, but Perilous Moons gear, the sunlight crossbow, demonbane weapons, Zulrah drops, and entry raid gear provide alternate routes.

When is an Ironman ready for raids?

Begin when all three combat styles are functional, supplies are sustainable, and the selected raid difficulty matches your experience. Perfect gear is not required.

Your route can change

Progress without turning the game into a checklist

Use the roadmap to understand why milestones matter, then switch activities, postpone rare drops, or take a different gear branch whenever that keeps the account enjoyable.
