The real answer
What changed
The 1.0 release added dozens of Pals, rebuilt Partner Skills, expanded Work Suitability, and made permanent investment less punishing.
Palworld 1.0 added 47 new species and 25 variants, changing progression, combat teams, and the best natural workers.
Natural suitability, Condensing, Applied Handbooks, and support effects now create a much deeper worker-upgrade path.
More than 200 Partner Skills were added or revised, making party composition and specialist utility more important than raw stats alone.
Maximum Condensing now requires 48 Pals rather than 116, while Pal Souls, Trust, Fruits, and Awakening offer additional growth.
Interactive planner
Choose the current goal first. The recommendations change dramatically between a first team, a production base, fishing, and a World Tree roster.
Recommended approach
Prioritize one reliable fighter, an exploration mount, a Fire Pal, and flexible Pals that remain useful at the base.
Primary focus
Easy access and immediate progression value
Early party support that can contribute while another Pal is deployed.
Accessible Fire damage plus early Kindling for furnaces and cooking.
Strong early Alpha target and a useful first rideable combat Pal.
Your first major exploration upgrade once its saddle is crafted.
Nocturnal utility with combat, Mining, Gathering, and Transporting value.
Ranking rules
These six checks are more useful than a single S-to-F ranking because they account for progression, actual output, and team composition.
A Pal that requires the World Tree cannot improve a Level 25 base. Recommendations are separated by progression stage for this reason.
Some Pals are selected because they strengthen the player, other Pals, fishing, breeding, drops, or a specific status build.
A huge level-10 worker can lose to a smaller level-8 worker when it becomes stuck, walks too far, or constantly changes jobs.
A multi-role Pal may never reach a low-priority task such as Cooling while an unlimited Mining or Transporting job remains enabled. Use the Monitoring Stand deliberately.
No combat Pal is best against every element, boss pattern, arena, or raid mechanic. Maintain several trained alternatives.
Condensing, Pal Souls, passives, Skill Fruits, Trust, Handbooks, Mutation, and Awakening can narrow natural gaps.
Level progression
The level ranges are flexible. Move into the next tier when you can safely capture the Pals, craft their gear, and support their food and upgrade costs.
Choose Pals that are easy to obtain and solve several immediate problems at once.
Party support
Adds pressure while another Pal fights after its Partner Skill item is crafted.
Combat and Kindling
Early Fire coverage and immediate furnace value.
All-rounder
Water and Ice coverage with broad base utility.
Early Alpha and mount
Accessible boss target that can remain useful for exploration and combat.
First flyer
Flight is one of the largest early exploration upgrades.
Night worker
Useful after dark for Mining, Gathering, Transporting, and general combat.
Begin replacing generalists with stronger combat specialists and dedicated base workers.
Combat and Handiwork
One of the most efficient upgrades because it improves both fighting and production.
Durable frontliner
Strong survivability for harder captures and bosses.
Water damage and Watering
Strong party value and a major upgrade for crop and Crusher throughput.
Flying combat
A notable step up from early flying mounts.
Fire and production
Combines combat, Kindling, and Mining value.
Nocturnal Mining
Works through the night and remains useful for mining-focused bases.
Capture legendaries, prepare counter teams, and start perfecting parents and permanent workers.
Legendary Ice combat
Strong damage, durability, and matchup value against Dragons.
Fastest travel
Exceptional map traversal and improved 1.0 combat performance.
Dark offense
High-pressure late-game combat option.
Defensive legendary
A durable alternative when survival matters more than burst.
Raid and mounted combat
High stamina, excellent mobility, and useful team support.
Water carry
A powerful endgame Water Pal for combat-focused teams.
World Tree Pals raise the ceiling for both combat and base production, but require the largest investment.
Mixed-party damage
Rewards a party made from different species and also excels at Handiwork.
Fire synergy
Applies Burn for player-driven status teams and leads late-game Kindling.
Dragon and Water carry
Elite Watering, strong personal stats, and very fast flying movement.
Defense and Mining
Protects against explosive attacks while serving as a focused miner.
Planting and utility
High Planting with multiple supporting work roles and natural nocturnal uptime.
Medicine and World Tree utility
Top Medicine Production plus broad base coverage.
Combat recommendations
Use these as roster anchors, then adjust the remaining slots for elemental counters, player buffs, status effects, and encounter mechanics.
Extra party pressure
Its value is highest before your roster contains fully optimized individual carries.
Rideable all-rounder
A practical first boss capture that does not require endgame gear or breeding.
Fast Ground attacker
One of the safest investments because it remains valuable even when removed from the party.
Durable frontliner
Use it when the encounter punishes fragile damage dealers.
Flying Dark combat
A useful bridge between early flyers and late-game legendary mounts.
Legendary Ice carry
Often a sensible first legendary because it helps prepare for Dragon-focused encounters.
Travel and Dragon offense
Jetragon is the speed benchmark, but Xenolord can be better when stamina and mounted weapons matter.
Raid reward and mounted carry
Its acquisition is demanding, so it should improve an existing endgame roster rather than start one.
Water damage specialist
Pair it with Electric counters in mind because no endgame Pal is matchup-proof.
Dragon and Water flying carry
Also one of the strongest natural Watering workers, giving it value outside combat.
Player-damage support
Its Partner Skill is strongest when every Pal in the party is a different species.
Colossal specialist
Its unusual size can create restrictions, so treat it as a specialist rather than a universal answer.
Exploration
Craft an upgrade when it saves time now. The most common mount mistake is spending dozens of hours on a slow flyer while waiting for Jetragon.
| Pal | Progression role | Best for | Keep in mind |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chillet | Early land mount | Exploration plus early combat | Upgrade when terrain and travel time become the main bottleneck. |
| Nitewing | First flying mount | Reaching cliffs, islands, and distant fast-travel points | Its value comes from early access to flight, not endgame speed. |
| Shadowbeak | Midgame flying upgrade | Combining travel with a combat-ready Dark Pal | A faster flyer may still be preferable for pure map traversal. |
| Jetragon | Fastest travel | Cross-map routes and repeated farming loops | Pure speed does not automatically make it the best mounted-combat choice. |
| Xenolord | Endgame endurance flyer | Long flights and fighting with player weapons while mounted | Raid access makes it much harder to obtain than ordinary mounts. |
| Shaolong | World Tree flying carry | Fast movement, Water combat, and Dragon-party builds | Its saddle and natural habitat place it extremely late in progression. |
Base production
The first value is the Pal’s base 1.0 Work Suitability. The second shows the fully condensed ceiling for the featured job. Manuals can push many alternatives further, and real output still depends on task priority and pathing.
Prioritize easy captures that cover several permanent jobs while your base slots are limited.
Nocturnal hybrid that can keep furnaces and resource sites moving.
Broad early coverage for Watering, Mining, Handiwork, Cooling, and Transporting.
Easy to obtain and more flexible than a single-job early generator.
A fast early upgrade for the heavy wood demand of a fresh save.
Works after dark and covers Mining, Gathering, and Transporting.
Replace starter generalists with specialists for the production lines that are becoming bottlenecks.
A high-value production worker that remains useful in combat.
A practical step up before World Tree and Legendary mining specialists.
A major upgrade for plantations, Crushers, and material processing.
Excellent for Cakes, ingots, and other long furnace queues.
A dependable farming specialist before the new World Tree leaders.
Use fully condensed specialists, nocturnal workers, and Partner Skill support to optimize dedicated bases.
Top condensed Kindling with valuable Handiwork, Gathering, and Transporting overlap.
Top condensed Watering plus Gathering and elite mount value.
Nocturnal crop specialist with several useful secondary jobs.
Nocturnal Handiwork leader with a powerful mixed-species party bonus.
Natural nocturnal transporter that reaches the top condensed tier.
| Job | Featured leader | Natural → condensed | Strong alternatives | Why it works |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Kindling | Renjishi | 8 → 10 | Blazamut, Jormuntide Ignis, Flaracle | Renjishi combines elite Kindling with Handiwork, Gathering, and Transporting instead of waiting beside an idle furnace. |
Watering | Shaolong | 8 → 10 | Ophydia, Jormuntide, Azurobe | Shaolong is the highest natural specialist and also provides Gathering when Watering stations are idle. |
Planting | Dandilord | 8 → 10 | Ophydia, Lyleen, Prunelia | Dandilord is naturally nocturnal and adds Handiwork, Gathering, Medicine Production, and Transporting. |
Generating Electricity | Orserk | 8 → 10 | Grizzbolt, Helzephyr Lux, Dynamoff | Orserk pairs top-tier electricity with Handiwork and Transporting rather than functioning as a single-purpose battery. |
Handiwork | Solenne | 8 → 10 | Anubis, Selyne, Splatterina | Solenne is naturally nocturnal, reaches the top condensed Handiwork tier, and supports player-focused mixed-species parties. |
Gathering | Jetragon | 8 → 10 | Shaolong, Renjishi, Dandilord | Jetragon is a focused Gathering worker, though using a legendary base slot for harvesting is optional rather than mandatory. |
Lumbering | Celesdir Noct | 8 → 10 | Celesdir, Bastigor, Wumpo | The Noct variant combines the strongest natural Lumbering level with automatic nighttime uptime. |
Mining | Astegon | 7 → 10 | Aegidron, Blazamut, Blazamut Ryu, Anubis with Sekhmet | Astegon reaches the top condensed tier and works through the night. Aegidron is the cleaner single-job specialist, while Anubis offers better role overlap. |
Medicine Production | Silvance | 8 → 10 | Lyleen Noct, Selyne, Dupin | Silvance reaches the top medicine tier while also covering Planting, Handiwork, Gathering, and Transporting. |
Cooling | Bastigor | 8 → 10 | Frostallion, Vanwyrm Cryst, Foxcicle | Bastigor is versatile, but Mining and Lumbering can prevent it from reaching low-priority Cooling jobs. Use the Monitoring Stand or choose Frostallion for strict task focus. |
Transporting | Eidrolon | 6 → 10 | Mimog, Eye of Cthulhu, Knocklem Ignis, Helzephyr Lux | Eidrolon is a natural nocturnal transporter that reaches the top condensed tier. Mimog can outperform it in spread-out bases when bred for movement speed. |
Ranching | Depends on the drop | Output-specific | Beegarde, Mozzarina, Chikipi, Vixy, Kelpsea | Ranching is not a single leaderboard. Choose the Pal that produces the material your current production line lacks. |
Specialist utility
Fishing, breeding, material farming, weight reduction, and detection effects can save more time than another damage dealer.
Stack separate Partner Skills for control, talented targets, item yield, and salvage.
Speed production, improve Alpha odds, duplicate collected eggs, and shorten incubation.
Use Partner Skills that improve drops, reduce carried weight, or expose hidden resources.
Example roster
This is a template, not a mandatory lineup. Duplicate the worker responsible for your heaviest production demand and remove roles the base does not use.
Kindling and overflow Handiwork
Watering and Gathering
Planting and crop support
Electricity and Transporting
Primary Handiwork
Secondary Handiwork and Mining
Nocturnal Mining
Dedicated Lumbering
Medicine and advanced benches
Cooling plus resource work
Dedicated nighttime Transporting
Fast Transporting across spread-out stations
Honey production
Flexible Watering and Planting
Braloha, a second miner, Ranch Pal, or defense specialist
Permanent investment
Natural rankings are the starting point. Palworld 1.0 gives you several ways to close the gap and build around a favorite species.
Palworld 1.0 reduced the total material requirement to 48 duplicates. Rank-ups improve stats, Partner Skills, and Work Suitability progression.
Use breeding or the Surgery Table to build combat, movement, work-speed, or support passives around the Pal's actual job.
Enhance the stats that matter for the role and keep party Pals active long enough to build Trust.
Power Fruits can finish underlying stats, Skill Fruits expand combat coverage, and Applied Handbooks improve base roles.
Mutated offspring and World Tree Awakening create a higher ceiling for the Pals you plan to keep permanently.

Avoid these mistakes
Most roster problems come from timing, assignment, matchup, or investment choices rather than selecting the wrong species.
Mistake 1
Copying an endgame tier list while still in the early game.
Mistake 2
Using five damage Pals without elemental or Partner Skill synergy.
Mistake 3
Waiting for Jetragon instead of crafting an earlier flying saddle.
Mistake 4
Ranking base workers only by their largest Work Suitability number.
Mistake 5
Ignoring body size, pathing, movement speed, food use, and nighttime uptime.
Mistake 6
Assigning multi-role Pals without Monitoring Stand priorities.
Mistake 7
Condensing rare passive carriers before checking breeding value.
Mistake 8
Spending major resources perfecting a Pal that will soon be replaced.
Mistake 9
Assuming Alpha status automatically makes every offspring or worker better.
Mistake 10
Treating fishing, breeding, drop-rate, and resource Pals as combat slots.

Capture useful Pals early, replace the current bottleneck, keep matchup alternatives, and reserve expensive investment for Pals you plan to use permanently. That approach is stronger than copying a single endgame tier list.
