The five-capture bonus gives experience, Mimog Effigies, workers, alternate passives, and Condensing material.
Open ground, short worker routes, nearby storage, stable food, and clear assignments matter more than scenery.
Missions, towers, Watchtowers, dungeons, and Technology unlocks should advance together instead of becoming separate grinds.
Start here
Do not over-optimize the opening. Establish a fast-travel loop, catch a useful worker roster, and make the base produce resources while you continue exploring.
Pick up Wood, Stone, Paldium Fragments, Red Berries, and every loose Pal Sphere you see. Open nearby chests instead of crafting everything immediately.
Reach the next Great Eagle Statue early. Fast travel lets you scout farther without committing your base to the first patch of ground you see.
Capture several common species, including a carrier, a miner, a lumberer, and Pals with Planting or Watering for your first food loop.
Choose open terrain, inspect the blue base boundary, and avoid letting cliffs or steep slopes consume most of your buildable space.
Add storage, a workbench, Pal beds, a Feed Box, and early Wood and Stone production. Keep storage close to the station that fills it.
Use the Palbox upgrade objectives and main missions as your progression spine. They naturally lead toward settlements, towers, better gear, and new technology.
Turn on single-button presses for hold interactions so crafting, building, and production do not require you to hold the key continuously.
Long trips are easier when sprint can be toggled and autorun is bound to a comfortable key. Watch your stamina near cliffs and during gliding.
Learn the command that changes party behavior. Defensive is safer while capturing because aggressive Pals can start fights or finish weakened targets.
Normal settings are a good first experience. Adjust gathering, incubation, raids, and death penalties only when you know which parts you want faster or more punishing.
Core progression loop
Palworld 1.0 reduced the capture bonus requirement to five. This makes broad capturing one of the fastest ways to gain experience, expand your worker roster, and earn Mimog Effigies for movement-speed upgrades.
Capture odds improve as the target loses health. Recall your active Pal when the target is close to being defeated.
Throws from behind, weak-point throws, sleeping targets, and some status effects can improve your chance of a successful capture.
A low-level Sphere can waste time and materials against stronger Pals. Carry several tiers when exploring beyond the starter area.
Follow-up Partner Skills can no longer finish a wild Pal in version 1.0. Later, mercy-focused equipment makes controlled captures even safer.
Why duplicates matter
Each copy can roll different passive skills, fill another base position, support Expeditions, or be used for Condensing. Version 1.0 also reduced the total number of Pals needed to reach maximum rank, so duplicate catches remain valuable well beyond the experience bonus.
Character build
There is no mandatory opening build. Stamina and Weight solve the problems every new player feels, while Health becomes more valuable when your equipment cannot absorb boss damage.
Improves sprinting, climbing, dodging, gliding, and the amount of work you can do before stopping.
Reduces the number of forced return trips while gathering Wood, Stone, Ore, and building materials.
Add points when boss attacks or unexpected encounters are punishing you before your armor and shields improve.
More relevant for a deliberate player-weapon build. Early progression usually gains more from survivability and convenience.
Your base Pals should handle repeated production. Permanent remedies can also improve character stats as you explore dungeons.
Avoid copying an exact stat total without considering your world settings and playstyle. A player focused on firearms, multiplayer, or difficult combat may value Attack and Health sooner than a builder who spends most of the opening gathering and automating.
Starter roster
Build a balanced party and worker roster instead of filling every slot with damage. Early utility can save more time than a small combat-stat advantage.
Catch immediately
Carrying and starter work
Its Partner Skill increases your carrying capacity, while its early work suitabilities make it useful around a new base.
First night
Capture support and night work
It follows the player and adds Dark damage. Version 1.0 follow-up attacks cannot finish a wild Pal, which helps with controlled captures.
Around the early teens
Combat, land travel, and swimming
The nearby Alpha is a strong early milestone and becomes a flexible mount once its Pal Gear is unlocked.
Early progression
First flying mount
Flight makes cliffs, Watchtowers, eggs, and scouting routes substantially easier before faster mounts become available.
When Ore becomes a bottleneck
Ore hauling
Keeping one in the party reduces the burden of carried Ore, making manual mining trips much more productive.
Starter region
Kindling and early combat
Kindling handles cooking and smelting, while its Partner Skill gives the player a useful early combat option.
Starter region
Watering and flexible base work
A convenient early Watering Pal that can help start Berry production and cover other basic jobs around the base.
Starter region
Planting
A simple early answer for Planting, which you need before a Berry Plantation can become an automated food source.
A useful early team usually includes one primary fighter, one mount, one carrying or gathering support Pal, one defensive or capture-support Pal, and one flexible slot for the resource or element you currently need.
Base building
The first base should remove chores. Nearby Ore is helpful, but a wide usable boundary and clean Pal pathing are more important than forcing every resource node into one cramped circle.
Keep the center readable and leave broad routes between work areas. Large Pals need more clearance than the player.
Place workbenches and general storage close to the Palbox so unloading and manual crafting stay convenient.
Put a chest beside each production site. Transporting Pals waste less time when the destination is only a few steps away.
Group the Berry Plantation, Feed Box, and ingredient storage. Shorter routes make planting, watering, harvesting, and feeding more reliable.
Provide enough beds for active workers and leave room for a Hot Spring. Hunger and low SAN can stall an otherwise well-designed base.
Reserve a clear side of the base for furnaces, Ranches, assembly stations, electricity, and later production buildings.
Put resource-specific chests beside the stations that generate those items and use filters to prevent clutter.
A Feed Box and Berry loop should be stable before you add several hungry Pals to the base.
Beds, food, medicine, and SAN recovery keep workers active and prevent a productive-looking base from quietly collapsing.
Base automation
Each facility requires specific work types. Higher suitability generally completes that job faster, but even a powerful Pal cannot water crops, mine Stone, or craft items without the matching suitability.
| Work type | What it controls | Early use |
|---|---|---|
| Kindling | Cooking and smelting | Campfires and furnaces |
| Watering | Watering crops and powered water tasks | Berry Plantation |
| Planting | Planting seeds | Berry Plantation |
| Electricity | Generating power | Later production |
| Handiwork | Crafting, building, and repairs | Workbench and construction |
| Gathering | Harvesting finished crops | Berry Plantation |
| Lumbering | Producing Wood | Trees and Logging Site |
| Mining | Producing Stone and Ore | Rocks and Stone Pit |
| Medicine | Producing medicine | Medical production |
| Cooling | Preserving food and cooling facilities | Coolers later on |
| Transporting | Moving dropped items into storage | Every production area |
| Farming | Producing materials in a Ranch | Eggs, Wool, Milk, and more |
The Monitoring Stand centralizes work preferences, fixed facility assignments, and work intensity. Disable Transporting on a specialist that should keep smelting, or fix a Ranch Pal to the Ranch instead of repeatedly throwing it at the building.
Technology priorities
Technology Points arrive quickly, but materials and build space do not. Prioritize survival, base support, automation, and movement before spending heavily on equipment you cannot use yet.
Progression note
Version 1.0 reworked the main mission flow and Technology progression. Follow the story toward tower objectives instead of grinding levels in isolation, because some later systems and exploration paths are tied to broader progression.
Beyond the base
Every trip should advance more than one goal. Combine Pal captures, map discovery, chests, missions, dungeons, Effigies, and resource gathering so you return with experience and permanent progress.
Reveal the surrounding map, expose nearby points of interest, and become fast-travel anchors for future scouting routes.
Complete their exploration challenges and minigames for experience and valuable schematic rewards.
Search for treasure, Alpha Pals, Skill Fruits, rare materials, schematics, and remedies that permanently improve player stats.
Talk to NPCs, accept sub-missions, use merchants, and unlock convenient travel points instead of treating the world as an empty sandbox.
Collect the different Pal Effigies you encounter and spend them at a Statue of Power for permanent character improvements.
Tower progression now connects more directly to the main story and later technology, so do not level endlessly while ignoring missions.
Dungeons can provide remedies and Lotus materials tied to permanent stat progression. Keep rare items until you understand their purpose, especially when ordinary treasure, excess resources, and mission rewards can cover early purchases.
Avoid wasted time
Most early setbacks come from poor base flow, unfocused spending, or trying to force combat and gathering without using the systems designed to help.
The capture bonus now completes after five catches. Duplicates also provide alternate passives, workers, and material for Condensing.
A scenic ledge can become a pathing nightmare when the boundary is blocked by slopes and there is no room for production expansion.
A Pal cannot complete a job it does not support. Check the icons required by each building before assuming your workers are broken.
Versatile Pals become distracted. Use the Monitoring Stand to disable low-priority jobs or assign a Pal to one important facility.
More workers create more hunger and recovery needs. Expand the support loop before filling every available base slot.
Unlock the tools that solve your current bottleneck. Decorative sets and unused Pal Gear can wait until your core production is stable.
Keep Lotus materials and unfamiliar upgrade items until you understand their recipes. Sell ordinary valuables or excess resources first.
Recall a powerful combat Pal when a target is low. Version 1.0 is more forgiving, but direct attacks can still defeat your target.
Manual trips are useful early, but production sites, Ranches, and specialized bases should gradually replace repetitive gathering.
Interactive progress tracker
You do not need to complete these in a rigid order. The goal is to reach a point where capturing, food, basic materials, storage, movement, and mission progress reinforce each other.

The beginner goal
A strong start is not about reaching one exact level quickly. It is about creating a loop where every trip reveals the map, catches useful Pals, supplies the base, unlocks Technology, and leaves you better prepared for the next mission or Tower.
