The reliable layout rule

1

Continuous work stays close

Mining, crops, Ranch output, storage, and food should form short loops.

2

Movement lanes stay wide

Use two-wide industrial routes, generous stair landings, and tall floors.

3

The workforce follows the goal

An everything base still needs assignments changed for the current project.

4

Ancient tech triggers a rebuild

Compact facilities should replace obsolete Sites instead of adding endless clutter.

Do not summon a Raid Boss at your primary base. Use the Raid Area or an empty combat base so production, storage, and breeding infrastructure are not destroyed.

Interactive planner

What kind of base are you building?

Choose the job first. The recommended zones, worker coverage, and mistakes change depending on whether the base is meant for crafting, breeding, Oil, combat, or endgame consolidation.

Levels 15 to 80

Main production base

Central crafting and player logistics

The base you visit most often. Put the Palbox, local unloading, Guild Chest, Item Retrieval Machine, cooking, queued production, upgrades, and important personal storage near the center.

Build around

  • Storage within a short path of production
  • Open sides around multi-worker stations
  • Fixed assignments for critical jobs
  • Power reserve for burst crafting

Avoid

  • Every automated farm in one hallway
  • Rare gear in worker-accessible chests
  • Tall machines under low ceilings
  • Long transport routes

Version 1.0

The base meta is less brittle and more flexible

The official 1.0 overhaul improves Transporting, repairs, SAN support, storage, travel, and construction options. These changes reward thoughtful zones rather than constant micromanagement.

Fast travel inside the radius

Open the map anywhere inside a base and travel without returning to the Palbox.

Free structure repair

Repair Kits were removed. Handiwork Pals repair damaged base structures without consuming items.

Smarter hauling and storage

Transporting levels improve collection radius, while matching-item deposits and clearer filters simplify chests.

Clinic and SAN support

Clinic tiers and upgraded Monitoring Stands reduce SAN pressure and suppress illness when properly staffed.

Aquatic construction

The Level 66 kit opens shorelines and the sea for foundations, docks, and large flat platforms.

Ancient consolidation

Ancient Farms, Hatchery, Clinic, Monitoring, and Material Synthesis compress older production chains.

Core rules

Solve these six problems before decorating

A beautiful base still fails when workers spawn into walls, paths are narrow, output travels too far, or the power and recovery systems cannot sustain the workload.

Palbox and radius

Place the structural foundation first, preview the full circle, protect resource nodes, and point the deployment side toward open worker space.

Pathing

Use two-wide industrial routes, broad stair landings, three-wall floor height, and minimal decoration in high-traffic zones.

Transport distance

Storage belongs beside the facility producing the item. Filters matter more than a decorative warehouse at the far edge.

Recovery

Distribute Feed Boxes, beds, Hot Springs, medicine, and Clinics near the work areas causing hunger and SAN loss.

Power margin

Generate more than the normal load, store excess in Accumulators, and use fixed assignments when Oil or Ancient facilities must stay active.

Worker priorities

Disable competing Suitabilities and fixed-assign critical jobs. More stations do not help when no worker is available to run them.

Keep critical stations physically accessible

Some 1.0 behavior may let a Pal continue work when a facility is awkward to reach, but hiding every Ranch or machine behind sealed walls is not a dependable foundation for a production base. Use hidden boost structures for aesthetics, then keep essential output and multi-worker stations reachable.

Layout blueprints

Choose a layout that matches the workforce

A single-floor base is easy to debug, a vertical base fits the most systems into one radius, and a specialized network becomes the cleanest solution after the Guild Chest unlocks.

Upper floor: low-movement systems

Breeding, Expeditions, Orchards, personal rooms, fixed assignments

Floor 3

Middle floor: Palbox logistics

Guild Chest, retrieval, kitchen, medicine, queued production, upgrades

Floor 2

Ground floor: continuous production

Mining, logging, crops, storage, furnaces, generators, open transport lanes

Floor 1

Single floor

Best for debugging pathing and early progression. It needs more horizontal space and careful collision planning.

Vertical

Best for a large everything base. Keep continuous work low, Palbox logistics central, and low-movement systems upstairs.

Network

Best after Level 41. Guild Chests connect a main production base to farming, breeding, resource, and Oil bases.

Specialized bases

One perfect base does not need to do every job

Specialization reduces pathing conflicts and lets the worker roster match one clear production loop. The main base can remain convenient without becoming an industrial traffic jam.

Construction techniques

Build cleaner with order, snapping, and temporary supports

Most placement problems are solved by changing the order of operations, creating a temporary snap point, or setting the first foundation and Palbox correctly.

Center and orient the Palbox first

The Palbox defines the build radius and where assigned Pals appear. Preview the full circle before committing.

  1. 1Place the intended foundation platform
  2. 2Preview the Palbox and walk the perimeter
  3. 3Aim the deployment side at open worker space
  4. 4Keep the spawn area clear

Watch for: Moving the Palbox later can dismantle base-only facilities even when ordinary walls and floors remain.

Build from the highest terrain point

Set the first foundation height high enough that the far side of the floor does not sink into grass, rocks, or a slope.

  1. 1Scout the whole footprint
  2. 2Raise or lower the first piece
  3. 3Extend a small test grid
  4. 4Only then fill the full floor

Watch for: Construction too close to a natural resource node can stop it from respawning.

Use Alignment Mode and temporary snap points

Walls, pillars, benches, pillows, and temporary foundations can create the snap point that a station or decorative piece needs.

  1. 1Favorite the repeated pieces
  2. 2Build the temporary support
  3. 3Snap the final object
  4. 4Remove the temporary piece

Watch for: Keep the workstation interaction arrow facing an open route, not an exterior wall.

Place tall machines before closing the ceiling

A generator or large industrial station may fail under an existing floor, yet the upper floor can often be placed after the machine is built.

  1. 1Mark the industrial zone
  2. 2Place the tallest facilities
  3. 3Test worker access
  4. 4Build the floor above last

Watch for: Give multi-worker stations open access on every side that can accept a worker.

Treat Plantation stacking as advanced

Temporary furniture supports can stack plots into a small footprint, but excessive height or poor arrow direction can reduce reliability.

  1. 1Place and orient the bottom plot
  2. 2Add a temporary support
  3. 3Snap the next plot
  4. 4Test Planting, Watering, and Gathering before copying

Watch for: Keep stacks conservative and rebuild them when a patch changes pathing.

Use the radius edge for oversized facilities

Large structures can sometimes remain associated with a base while part of the model extends beyond the blue circle.

  1. 1Move the preview toward the boundary
  2. 2Stop before it becomes invalid
  3. 3Keep outputs inside worker range
  4. 4Test after relogging

Watch for: Do not depend on an exact overlap percentage. Ranch drops outside the radius may be ignored.

Replacement Mode

Upgrade Wood to Stone, swap windows and doors, and fix floor grain without dismantling the surrounding structure.

Flush stairs

Use Alignment Mode to sink stairs toward terrain and reserve a full landing so large Pals approach cleanly.

Pillars and triangles

Pillars must connect through supported pieces to the ground. Triangles cap gaps and shape circular footprints.

Technology timeline

Facilities that change how the base should be designed

These unlocks are not just another machine. They change storage, SAN, power, construction, breeding, or the number of specialized outposts you still need.

LevelFacilityWhy it mattersPlacement
7Monitoring StandControls work intensity, allowed jobs, and fixed assignments.Place centrally, access matters more than worker pathing.
20Dimensional Pal StorageStores a much larger pool of workers and breeding stock.Near the Palbox, breeding, Condenser, and Surgery Table.

66Aquatic Construction KitAllows foundations and bases to be built on water.Craft once, then plan a broad platform before adding machines.
69Large Fishing PondAdds higher-tier passive fishing production.Give it open room and place output storage nearby.
71Skillfruit OrchardCultivates copies of planted Skill Fruits.Near Pal upgrades, storage, and late-game farming workers.
71Ancient Monitoring StandProvides advanced work controls and stronger SAN support.Use in the main industrial or Ancient base.
73Ancient ClinicTop-tier SAN and illness support when staffed by Medicine Production.Fixed-assign one medical worker and keep recovery nearby.
76Ancient HatcheryCompresses breeding and incubation into one high-speed facility.Allows a separate breeding base to be consolidated.
78Ancient FarmCompact indoor cultivation that can replace many ordinary plots.Group with food storage and high-level farm workers.
78Ancient Material SynthesizerProduces selectable Wood and Ore resources in a compact footprint.Near high-capacity power and output storage.

Workers and recovery

A fast Pal is only useful when it stays on the right job

Use the Monitoring Stand to narrow each worker's responsibilities. Then support the roster with food, beds, Hot Springs, medicine, and a Clinic that match the work intensity.

Assignment priorities

Transporting

Every productive base needs coverage. Put output storage close enough that a transporter completes a route quickly.

Ranch producers

Disable competing jobs or fixed-assign Honey and organ producers so they remain in the Ranch.

Electricity

Fixed-assign when Oil or Ancient machines need uninterrupted power. Use Accumulators for gaps.

Medicine Production

Assign one Pal to the Clinic or Ancient Clinic before increasing work intensity.

Queued production

Swap high Handiwork or Kindling Pals in when a large order is active instead of leaving every line staffed permanently.

SAN and health stack

Food

Use adequate Nutrition and SAN recovery instead of leaving raw Berries as the permanent solution.

Beds

Place sleeping options near Pal-traveled work zones, not only in a distant decorative dormitory.

Hot Springs

Pals now remain until SAN is fully restored. Place enough accessible recovery for the active workforce.

Clinic

A Medicine Production Pal reduces SAN depletion and suppresses illness across the base.

Monitoring

Higher tiers retain assignment controls and add SAN support. Harder work still needs stronger recovery.

Storage and power

Design the base around movement you can eliminate

Local storage, cross-base sharing, item retrieval, filtering, and power reserves reduce travel for both the player and the worker roster.

Storage ladder

Early game

Use stackable furniture storage and matching-item Quick Stack. Keep Wood, Stone, Fiber, and Ore easy to unload.

Filtered local storage

Set one or two output categories beside each production zone so Transporting Pals do not scatter items.

Guild Chest, Level 41

Share raw materials and production inputs between bases. Keep personal equipment outside the shared pool.

Item Retrieval, Level 49

Access ordinary storage across the current base from one central machine.

Advanced Chest, Level 59

Create compact storage walls while keeping interaction arrows and worker lanes open.

Power planning

Baseline

Power normal crafting and lighting without draining the reserve.

Accumulators

Store daytime surplus and survive sleep or reassignment gaps.

Oil

Natural extraction is cheaper to power than the free-standing high-pressure option.

Fixed assignment

Keep a generator staffed when the production target cannot pause.

Load shedding

Disable idle Quarries, Oil, or Ancient machines when another process needs priority.

Ancient phase

Recalculate the grid after every high-draw facility instead of assuming old generation is enough.

Troubleshooting

Fix the system before replacing the Pal

Many apparent worker problems are layout, access, storage, assignment, or power problems. Diagnose the loop before breeding a new workforce.

Use the focused guides for location, workers, resources, and progression

The base-building guide explains the layout. These pages help choose the land, staff the jobs, and know when an old outpost can be retired.

Final rule

Build around the work loop, then decorate the empty space

Palworld workers become reliable when the Palbox, paths, interaction sides, storage, food, recovery, and power all agree on the same layout. Decoration should support that loop, not cut through it.
