Quick answer

The Claymore is a directional anti-personnel mine in DayZ. Unlike a Land Mine, it is not triggered by stepping on it. It must be placed, aimed toward the target area, and remotely detonated with a Remote Detonation Unit. It has a wide danger zone around it, but its strongest damage is in the frontal arc, making placement direction extremely important.

In-game description

Directional remote controlled mine. A convenient label reminds the user to point it toward the enemy.

Main Uses

  • Place as a remotely triggered anti-personnel trap
  • Aim the front of the Claymore toward an expected enemy path
  • Use for ambushes around doors, gates, roads, tents, or chokepoints
  • Defend bases, camps, stashes, or high-value loot areas
  • Trigger with a Remote Detonation Unit when the target enters the blast area
  • Use for area denial or to stop a push through a narrow route

How to use this item

Place a Claymore

Place the Claymore facing the direction you expect enemies to approach from. Direction matters because the strongest blast is in the frontal arc.

  1. Equip the Claymore.
  2. Choose a placement location with the front facing the enemy path.
  3. Deploy the Claymore.
  4. Move away from the blast area.
  5. Prepare the Remote Detonation Unit before triggering it.

Detonate with a Remote Detonation Unit

The Claymore is detonated remotely. The remote detonator has a 100m range and cannot trigger the Claymore from outside that range.

  1. Place the Claymore.
  2. Use a Remote Detonation Unit with the Claymore setup.
  3. Move to a safe location within remote range.
  4. Watch the target area.
  5. Trigger the Claymore when the enemy is in the danger zone.

How to get Claymore

  • Search military loot locations.
  • Check high-value military areas, tents, barracks, checkpoints, and other rare explosive spawns.
  • Loot players carrying explosives, traps, or remote detonation gear.
