Canteen
The Canteen is a rare drink container in DayZ used to carry up to 1000 mL of water or gasoline. It takes 4 inventory slots, weighs about 1.25 kg when full, can be refilled at Water Pumps, Water Springs, and fresh water sources, can be boiled to remove most contaminants except Heavy Metal Poisoning, and can attach to the Belt, Tactical Belt, and Hip Pack.
Quick item summary
Quick answer
The Canteen is a reusable liquid container in DayZ used by military and campers. It can hold water for drinking or gasoline when filled at Fuel Pumps. Unlike a Plastic Bottle, it can be heated in cooking slots until boiling to remove most contaminants, though boiling does not remove Heavy Metal Poisoning. Spawned Canteens can contain unsafe water, so it is best to empty and refill them at a Water Pump or Water Spring, boil the contents, or use purification tablets before drinking.
