Data note: fluid properties are displayed using the game's translated per-1000 mL convention. Categories, poison blocks, and blend whitelists are exact definition fields. The game still controls final transfer, mixture, poisoning, consumption, recipe, and container behavior at runtime.
Duplicate display-name note: clean Water and TaintedWater are both translated as Water. The database keeps their internal IDs visible so they are never presented as the same definition.

Using Build 42 liquids

Read the definition before you pour

Build 42 separates the liquid from its container. One bottle, bucket, pot, or canteen can participate in several systems, while the stored fluid carries its own properties and safety rules.

Check 1

Identify the exact fluid

Check the internal ID as well as the translated name. Clean Water and TaintedWater deliberately share the same player-facing name.

Check 2

Read its categories

Categories connect fluids to recipes and source blend lists. Beverage, Water, Alcoholic, Industrial, and Hazardous are functional data labels.

Check 3

Check poison and effects

Use the exact poison profile and per-1000 mL properties before treating a liquid as safe, useful, or interchangeable.

Check 4

Choose enough storage

Compare capacity, weight, rain factor, initial contents, and transfer rate, then use the storage planner for your target volume.

What the source stores

Definitions, links, and runtime boundaries

Per-1000 mL properties

Thirst, hunger, calories, macronutrients, alcohol, fatigue, pain, flu, endurance, stress, and sickness values come directly from each fluid block.

Poison and blend fields

Ten fluids define poison severity, minimum amount, and dilution ratio. Fifty-six definitions also provide explicit category whitelists.

Container components

The catalog reads the new FluidContainer component, including capacity, rain factor, transfer rate, starting fill range, opening state, and initial fluids.

Common questions

Project Zomboid fluids FAQ

How many fluid definitions are in Project Zomboid Build 42.20.4?

The supplied source contains 61 translated fluid definitions across 11 categories, including beverages, water, alcohol, fuels, medical liquids, dyes, industrial liquids, and hazardous substances.

What amount do the fluid property values describe?

The Build 42 interface labels fluid properties as values per 1000 mL. The database preserves the configured source values and the mixing planner calculates a volume-weighted preview.

Why are there two fluids named Water?

Base.Water and Base.TaintedWater share the translated display name Water, but they are separate definitions. TaintedWater includes Hazardous and Water categories plus a Medium poison profile.

How many liquid containers are included?

The database contains 127 publishable item definitions with a FluidContainer component and 111 distinct verified native icons.

Which fluid fields control poisoning?

Ten definitions contain a Poison block with a maximum effect, minimum amount, and dilution ratio. Final poisoning still depends on game runtime behavior and the consumed mixture.

Does a whitelist match guarantee that two fluids will mix?

No. The planner compares the explicit category whitelist stored on each definition. The game still performs final container, transfer, mixture, and runtime validation.

How many recipes use fluid requirements?

The parsed Crafting data contains 55 fluid requirement rows across 53 recipes. These produce 117 exact-fluid or category-based links to the fluid database.

What does the container storage planner calculate?

Choose any indexed container and target volume to calculate the number of full-capacity containers required and the unused capacity. Exact item capacity comes from the Build 42 FluidContainer component.
