Orientation 01
Your first-day priorities
Abiotic Factor becomes much easier once you know which systems matter first. Complete these tasks before pushing far into the Office Sector.
First-day checklist

Orientation 02
Choose a flexible first character
Every job is playable, but beginners benefit most from long-term convenience rather than only a few early skill levels.
Flexible beginner build
- Job
- Summer Intern
- Core traits
- Fanny Pack + Wrinkly Brainmeat
- Possible tradeoff
- Hearty Appetite
Fanny Pack: permanently adds two hotbar slots, not backpack inventory.
Wrinkly Brainmeat: grants 20% more XP across every skill.
Hearty Appetite: increases hunger. It becomes manageable after cooking is established, but makes the opening less forgiving.
Orientation 03
Do not rush through the cafeteria
The opening area pauses the clock and your survival needs. Use that free preparation time before passing through the doors that begin the normal day cycle.
Screwdriver
Package furniture and dismantle useful fixtures.
Flashlight
Essential after facility power shuts down.
Kitchen knife
Butcher creature corpses for meat.
Frying pan
Cook raw meat on a stove.
Medical supplies
Search the wall-mounted first-aid kit.
Emails
Read terminals and open attachments for crafting ideas.
Save these materials
Keep duct tape and metal pipes for your first Crafting Bench. Also hold onto screws, coils, Computer Bricks, cloth, and scrap for early equipment.
Orientation 04
Build a practical first base
Your first base does not have to be permanent. It needs power, storage, nearby water and a safe place to sleep.
| Location | Advantages | Limitations | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cafeteria | Immediate kitchen, familiar route | Less convenient later | Fastest setup |
| Office gym | Bathroom, space, nearby loot | Open and exposed | Reliable first night |
| Security office | Shutters, bathroom, vending, central | Needs a Keypad Hacker | Longer-term base |
Essential base equipment
Powered Crafting Bench
Unlocks advanced crafting and suppresses ordinary enemy spawns within its safe radius.
Battery and Plug Strip
Charge by day, then keep essential equipment powered overnight.
Portable Stove
Cook meat, boil water, and later prepare soup.
Repair & Salvage Station
Repair gear and reclaim materials from unwanted items.
Storage
Build crates or package containers to organize components.
Bed
Rest and set a nearby respawn point before taking risks.
Orientation 05
Secure food and renewable water
Sinks and vending machines help at first, but they are temporary supplies. Establish repeatable routines before exploring deeper.
Early clean-water loop
- 1. Package empty water coolers or barrels.
- 2. Fill them from the pool, fountain, or another tainted source.
- 3. Use a Platform Cart to move the heavy containers.
- 4. Boil tainted water at your base to produce clean water.
Early boiling loses much of the water, so transport more than you think you need.
Early food progression
- 1. Butcher Pests and Peccaries with a sharp weapon.
- 2. Cook their meat in a frying pan.
- 3. Raise Cooking to level 3 to unlock soup.
- 4. Use soup for several servings, hydration, hunger, and buffs.
Staying well fed and hydrated improves recovery and stamina efficiency.
Orientation 06
Carry more than one damage type
Enemies have different weaknesses. A single favorite weapon will not perform equally well against every threat.
Starter loadout
- Makeshift Spear for reach and sharp damage
- Pipe Club or Desk Leg for blunt damage
- Plastic Shield for safer close combat
- Makeshift Armor for protection and carrying capacity
- Knife for butchering
- Several Bandages and at least one Splint
- Flashlight
Orientation 07
Prepare before the lights go out
Facility power shuts down at night. Batteries bridge the outage, while hostile Security Bots patrol areas that were safer during the day.
During the day
Connect batteries to outlets and charge them fully.
At night
Power essential equipment and carry a flashlight.
Security Bots
Avoid their patrols until properly equipped.
Retrieve an anvil during your first night
Return to the rear cafeteria vents after power shuts down. Enter the right vent and continue forward. The fan will be off, allowing access to the maintenance area. Search beyond the blue doors for an anvil, then build your Repair & Salvage Station.
Night does not make the entire facility off-limits. Move carefully and use the outage to access routes blocked by active machinery.
Orientation 08
Explore with a specific objective
Good navigation and resource habits save more time than carrying every piece of office furniture you encounter.
Take wall maps
Collect each sector map and follow facility signs.
Check every route
Vents, ladders, crawlspaces, and portal exits reveal shortcuts.
Place beacons
Mark tram stations, portals, bases, and hidden passages.
Make targeted trips
Choose a needed component, gather it, then return to storage.
Portal Worlds are renewable resource zones
Most Facility loot does not respawn under default settings. Portal Worlds reset twice each week, allowing important supplies to be collected again. Flathill provides renewable Power Cells and military supplies, while Far Garden is useful for Anteverse Wheat.
Final briefing
Common mistakes to avoid
Most difficult first playthroughs are caused by skipped preparation rather than a lack of combat ability.
You are ready to leave orientation
Once you have a powered base, renewable water, basic armor, two damage types, medical supplies, and the Security Pack, follow the signs deeper into the Office Sector.
