Valheim Biome Progression Order

This is the practical biome path most players follow. Ocean is listed as a travel biome because sailing becomes important once your world opens up.

Follow the Biome Curve

You can wander out of order, but most biomes expect the food, gear, and boss unlocks from the previous biome.

Food Is Biome Prep

Every biome unlocks better meals. Upgrading food is just as important as upgrading weapons and armor.

Respect Resistance

Poison, frost, fire, pierce, and wet effects can decide fights before they start. Bring the right meads and gear.

Use Portals Smartly

Portals are great for travel and corpse recovery, but most ores and metals still need to be moved by boat.

Every Major Valheim Biome

Each biome card covers its purpose, key resources, enemies, boss, unlocks, prep tips, and the main goals you should complete before moving on.

Biome 1Safe starter biome and first base location

Meadows

The Meadows is where most players spawn and where Valheim teaches basic survival. It is the safest biome, making it ideal for your first base, early food, workbench crafting, hunting, and Eikthyr prep.

  • Learn cooking, resting, crafting, and repairing.
  • Hunt deer for trophies and hides.
  • Defeat Eikthyr and craft the Antler Pickaxe.

Watch Out

The Meadows is safe compared to later biomes, but falling trees, bee nests, night enemies, and low food can still kill new players.

Travel BiomeBoats, serpents, Leviathans, chitin, and metal hauling
