Duplicate inputs
Bring two copies of the same item at the same rarity. A mismatched pair is not the documented upgrade recipe.

Unlock Baldwin's forge, combine matching equipment, understand Iron and Tin upgrades, find ingot sellers, raise Forging through quests, and avoid gambling away the gear your build needs.

System overview
The anvil consumes duplicate equipment and ingots for a chance to produce one higher-rarity copy. The upgraded item can be valuable, but failure can remove one or both inputs and turn a cheap experiment into an expensive setback.
Forging works beyond metal gear
The Knowledge Tracker says compatible leather and other equipment can use ingots too. The anvil interface is the final compatibility check.
Bring two copies of the same item at the same rarity. A mismatched pair is not the documented upgrade recipe.
Iron begins the system. Tin, Steel, and Moon materials support increasingly expensive later attempts.
An unsuccessful roll may break one input or both. Forging is never a safe storage or guaranteed crafting system.
Beginner forge access
Baldwin is the practical first forge because Basile already has equipment sellers, ingot access, a depot, and several early quest routes. The detailed tracker entry and the video both identify Baldwin as the blacksmith.

Anvil workflow
The material resolves the attempt as soon as it is added. Organize the inputs before touching the anvil so the active copy never becomes part of the gamble.
Use two copies of the same item at the same rarity. Keep your equipped copy away from the anvil.
Drag the first item onto the forge, then add the second matching copy.
The material is consumed when the attempt resolves. Common upgrades use Iron, while later tiers require more valuable ingots.
Success creates one upgraded item. Failure may destroy one input or both inputs, so every attempt should use replaceable equipment.
Both inputs and the ingot are consumed, and one item at the next rarity is produced.
The attempt consumes the ingot and one item, leaving a single matching copy for another attempt.
The ingot and both item copies are lost. The video directly demonstrates this worst-case result.
Rarity progression
Common and Uncommon requirements are directly supported by the tracker. Steel and Moon requirements come from the video and should be verified against the live anvil before committing rare materials.

Forging profession
The video reports that each Forging point adds one percentage point to success chance. It also reports that profession levels come from forging quests rather than repeated anvil attempts.
Quest progression is not fully mapped
The tracker documents smithing tutorial books and the Garadum forge quest, but it does not provide a complete profession-level route or exact points for every quest.

The exact current base rate is uncertain
Community testing estimated roughly 10% for Common to Uncommon after the profession system was added. Treat that figure as an estimate, not a guaranteed live probability.
The tracker preserves older rates of 18.75% upgrade, 56.25% lose one item, and 25% lose both items. These figures predate the Forging profession and should not be treated as current guaranteed odds.
Forging materials
Iron and Tin have several vendor sources. Steel is expensive, and Moon Ingots come from dangerous advanced content in the tracker. Prices may move between builds.

More expensive and less common. Save Tin for equipment that will remain useful for several levels.

The tracker documents a dangerous Amphitere group route rather than a normal beginner vendor source.

Free and quest ingots
Several documented chests provide Iron or Tin Ingots. These runs can lower the cost of a first attempt, but some include quest locks, dangerous enemies, or major spoilers.

Forge locations
A convenient forge does not improve success by itself. Choose the location that minimizes travel and access costs, then invest in profession progress and cheaper materials.
Best beginner location
Baldwin's forge is close to Basile's market, depot, equipment sellers, and early quest routes. Say forge, then yes, to buy access.

Useful, but location needs verification
The video reports a free forge near the East Nordha depot. The creator was uncertain about the exact building, so verify it after launch.

Convenience, not a requirement
A personal anvil can reduce travel later, but Baldwin's forge is enough for early attempts. Do not delay core gear to buy one.
Access
Purchase after housing access
Treat these as later convenience purchases. A private anvil does not remove the need for duplicates, ingots, or success chance.

Forging economy
The true cost includes two item copies, all ingots, forge access, travel, and the possibility of repeated failures. A cheap-looking roll can exceed the price of a guaranteed upgrade very quickly.
Example attempt
Keep your active weapon and armor in a separate bag or depot. A failed attempt can destroy both forge inputs.
A quest reward or merchant upgrade may cost less than repeated attempts, especially when the estimated base success rate is low.
Decide how many attempts the budget can support before entering the forge. Do not chase a failed roll with progression Gold.
Tin, Steel, and Moon materials should go toward equipment that will remain useful, not a temporary item being replaced soon.
Benedict and Egemen list lower ingot prices, but their access requirements may make Matthew or Nick more practical early.
The video reports that anvil attempts do not level Forging. Look for smithing and forge quests that award profession progress.
Common mistakes
Forging is easiest to manage when it is treated as an optional upgrade system rather than the only path forward. A strong quest reward with guaranteed stats may be better than a long losing streak.
Forging FAQ
Final forging rule
Secure replacement gear, compare guaranteed upgrades, gather the correct ingots, and set a budget before the first roll. A successful forge should improve the character, not risk ending the current progression route.
